Research Internship in Psychoinformatics: Artificial Intelligence, Behavioural Data Science, Safety and Disaster Management

A good call should communicate that this is an opportunity to help develop an emerging research area, not simply to assist with an existing project. That will appeal to postgraduate students who want to build a research profile.

Call for Research Interns

Research Internship in Psychoinformatics: Artificial Intelligence, Behavioural Data Science, Safety and Disaster Management

Organized by
Rabindrik Psychotherapy Research Institute Trust (RPRIT), Kolkata

About the Internship

Rabindrik Psychotherapy Research Institute Trust (RPRIT) invites applications from highly motivated postgraduate students and early-career researchers to participate in a non-paid research internship in Psychoinformatics, an emerging interdisciplinary field that integrates psychology, psychiatric social work, psychometrics, artificial intelligence, information science, data mining, and behavioural analytics.

Psychoinformatics is an interdisciplinary, data-driven research framework that integrates psychology, psychiatric social work, psychometrics, information science, statistics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to retrieve, organize, analyse, and interpret behavioural and psychosocial data for knowledge discovery and evidence-based decision-making. Unlike traditional psychological research, which primarily relies on hypothesis testing and researcher-generated data, Psychoinformatics utilizes existing behavioural data repositories, clinical records, community databases, psychometric assessments, organizational records, and digital information systems to identify hidden behavioural patterns, generate new knowledge, and support informed interventions.

The internship aims to develop and evaluate computational approaches for understanding psychological, behavioural, organizational, and disaster-related data. Participants will contribute to the development of conceptual frameworks, literature synthesis, behavioural data models, and AI-assisted decision-support systems with applications in mental health, occupational safety, community resilience, and disaster management.

Objectives

The internship seeks to explore the application of Psychoinformatics in behavioural research, psychosocial disaster management, safety science, and evidence-based decision-making. Interns will participate in the development of innovative research ideas, conduct scientific literature reviews, analyse behavioural datasets (where appropriate), and contribute to the preparation of research papers, conference presentations, and future collaborative research proposals.

Areas of Research

  • Psychoinformatics and Behavioural Data Science

  • Artificial Intelligence in Mental Health

  • Disaster Mental Health and Psychosocial Care

  • Psychiatric Social Work and Community Resilience

  • Safety Psychology and Human Factors

  • Applied Psychometrics

  • Machine Learning for Behavioural Research

  • Decision-Support Systems for Safety and Disaster Management

  • Research Methodology and Scientific Communication

Eligibility

Applications are invited from postgraduate students, M.Phil. scholars, Ph.D. scholars, and early-career researchers in Psychology, Psychiatric Social Work, Psychiatry, Public Health, Social Work, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Disaster Management, Engineering, or related disciplines. Students with an interest in interdisciplinary research and behavioural data analytics are particularly encouraged to apply.

Internship Activities

Interns will undertake guided reading, scientific discussions, literature review, conceptual model development, behavioural data analysis using statistical software, report writing, and collaborative research meetings. Depending on the progress of the project, interns may contribute to manuscripts submitted for publication or presentations at academic conferences.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the internship, participants will gain an understanding of Psychoinformatics as a data-driven research methodology, develop competencies in behavioural data analysis and scientific communication, and acquire experience in interdisciplinary research integrating psychology, artificial intelligence, and computational methods.

Duration

6–8 weeks (Online/Hybrid)

Financial Support

This is a non-paid academic research internship intended for educational and research capacity building. Selected interns will receive academic mentoring and, upon satisfactory completion of the internship requirements, a Certificate of Research Internship from RPRIT.

Future Opportunities

Outstanding interns may be considered for participation in future collaborative research projects, academic workshops, publications, and advanced certificate programmes in Psychoinformatics.
