UGC guidelines for undergraduate internship

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued guidelines to promote internships for undergraduate students under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aiming to enhance employability, skill development, and experiential learning. Here are the key points of the UGC Guidelines for Undergraduate Internship:

1. Duration and Credit Allocation
Internships are mandatory and should be a part of the undergraduate curriculum.

Minimum duration: 8–10 weeks (approx. 2–3 months).

Internships carry 2 to 4 credits, depending on the duration and effort.

2. Types of Internships
Research internships with faculty or institutions.

Industry internships in private or public sectors.

Social or community engagement internships (NGOs, Panchayats, local bodies).

Entrepreneurial internships or field-based projects.

3. Implementation Framework
Institutions must have an Internship Cell.

A mentor or faculty guide must supervise the internship.

MOUs with industries or organizations are encouraged.

4. Assessment and Evaluation
Interns must submit a report or project.

Evaluation is based on:

Performance appraisal by the organization.

Viva-voce or presentation.

Internship diary/logbook.

5. Flexibility and Support
Internships can be online or offline.

Institutions must facilitate opportunities and ensure inclusive access for all students.
