Career Counseling – Theory and Practice of the RIASEC Model

Eligibility:
UG/PG students in Psychology, Education, Social Work, Human Development, or related fields. 
Course Objectives:
To introduce the RIASEC model of career personality

To train students in steps of career counseling

To develop skills in administering, interpreting, and applying career assessment tools

To enable students to use digital tools (e.g., Excel, R, or online platforms) for career data analysis

Module-wise Syllabus:
Module 1: Foundations of Career Counseling (4 hours)
Definition and scope of career counseling

Ethical principles and counselor's role

Introduction to career development theories (brief overview)

Module 2: The RIASEC Model (6 hours)
Overview of Holland’s Theory

The six RIASEC types: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, Conventional

Matching personality types with career environments

Case examples and profiles

Module 3: Steps in Career Counseling (8 hours)
Intake and rapport building

Assessment (Interest, Aptitude, Personality)

Goal setting and exploration of career options

Information sharing and decision-making

Career action plan

Follow-up and support

Module 4: Career Assessment and Data Handling (6 hours)
Administering and scoring a RIASEC inventory

Interpretation of RIASEC scores

Creating career graphs and profiles

Using Excel for career data visualization

Optional: R for simple clustering or predictions

Module 5: Field Practice and Report Writing (6 hours)
Career counseling sessions (mock/real with consent)

Observation and note-taking

Writing a career counseling report (sample format to be provided)

Ethics in documentation and confidentiality

Assessment:
Short MCQ/Quiz (10%)

Participation and practical engagement (30%)

Submission of a sample career counseling report (30%)

Final presentation on one case or career issue (30%)
